TUM meets UniTyLab – Heilbronn teaching and research institutes want to work together in the future

Since July 2018 Professor Dr. Helmut Krcmar is Vice Dean of the TUM School of Management and Founding Dean of the TUM Campus Heilbronn. With the commitment of the Munich residents here in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, the close proximity between the TUM branch office and the UniTyLab of the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences is now so close that a possible cooperation between the two teaching and research institutes is taking concrete form.

The so-called „Holodeck“ (virtual reality laboratory) of the UniTyLab – known beyond the borders of the Heilbronn region – has also piqued the interest of Prof. Krcmar and his colleagues. In October of 2018, the interested parties already met at the Heilbronn Institute for a discussion. Since then, much has happened in the VR laboratory at UniTyLab. Among other things, several new demonstrators were commissioned and various existing applications were expanded upon. At the follow-up meeting a few weeks ago, the main focus was on the active testing of the Heilbronn research demos in addition to the professional exchange. Professor Krcmar dared the „virtual jump“  from the 10-meter board and tried out the new SenseGlove data glove. In addition, some student projects were presented.

In the future, the two Heilbronn-based teaching and research institutes are aiming to launch a joint project. The conditions for this are promising: the team around Prof. Meixner can provide the technical expertise due to the great experience in the field of human-technology interaction, whereas the mapping of economic processes belongs to the area of responsibility of Prof. Krcmar and his team at the TUM Campus Heilbronn.
